Stress and Relaxation

Stress

Stress can be defined as the way you feel when you're under pressure.

You may feel tense, agitated or anxious.

You may be tired.

You may not be able to sleep.

You may eat more or eat less.

You may find yourself biting your nails or there may some other habit you would rather not do...

You may smoke more...drink more...

The difficulty is, when you feel stress the adrenalin in your body rises and triggers the 'fight or flight' response. In many case you can't do either. It could be that you're stuck behind your desk at work, or behind the wheel of your car or on an over-crowded bus. You may find your heart racing, and you may begin to sweat. Chemicals are released into your body telling it to respond, but you can't...you supress it. And, over time this can have a negative effect on your health, and your behaviour. You may become irritable with those around you, you may have less patience, your tolerance levels decrease. You may become tearful. The relationships you have with your loved ones may suffer.

You want to say 'stop!' but you don't know how.
